Vaillant heat pump install in Tillingham, near Southminster

The customer wanted to get off oil and switch to a hyper-efficient heat pump system. The job included a new air source heat pump, a replacement hot water cylinder, modern heating controls and upgrading 3 undersized radiators.

Technical specification

The team retrofitted the heat pump into the home’s existing heating setup. This involves adding new components to the current pipework while keeping as many of the original radiators as possible. Where needed, upgraded radiators are installed to ensure the heat pump operates efficiently and maintains a warm home even in the coldest months.

A popular choice is the Vaillant aroTHERM Plus, known for its outstanding efficiency. It’s user-friendly, operates quietly, and utilizes the latest natural refrigerant, R290. This allows it to reach high temperatures when necessary while also being more environmentally friendly.

For hot water, a 250L unvented cylinder ensures a plentiful supply with consistently strong pressure. Unvented cylinders are ideal for heat pumps as they store water efficiently. This particular model is designed specifically for use with a heat pump, featuring an enhanced heating coil for effective heat exchange at lower temperatures. The result is hot water production at over 300% efficiency.

The Vaillant sensoCOMFORT controller enhances both comfort and energy efficiency. With built-in weather compensation, it automatically adjusts heating based on outdoor conditions to optimise performance. Its internet connectivity allows remote control via an app and provides access to specialised heat pump energy tariffs—maximising savings on energy costs.
